Review of the REOBRIX 66036 Pirate Ship (Black Pearl)

On the workbench—and quite literally, because this model requires a huge amount of space—we’re taking on the majestic Black Pearl Pirate Ship (set no. 66036).

Made up of a staggering 4,304 pieces, this dark sailing ship is a project that will satisfy even the most demanding and patient builders. Get ready for long hours of an amazing adventure!

First impressions and the scale of the challenge

Right after opening the gigantic box, it’s clear we’re not dealing with an ordinary toy for a casual evening. The manufacturer marked this model’s complexity level as 7/8 (i.e., “monumental”). And that’s no exaggeration. Thousands of parts mean assembling it can take days—or even weeks—of relaxing tinkering.

Despite the sheer number of pieces, the work goes very smoothly. The bricks (made from high-quality ABS plastic) fit together отлично, and the full-color step-by-step instructions confidently guide you through the successive sections of the build.

Impressive dimensions you can’t ignore

What hits you most after placing the last brick is the scale of this undertaking. The ship is simply huge. It measures 100 cm in length, 70 cm in height, and nearly 27 cm in width. I guarantee it will dominate any shelf you put it on.

The dark design, inspired by the legendary sailing ship from the silver screen, makes a stunning impression. The key highlight is undoubtedly the sails made of black PVC material. They drape very naturally, are resistant to damage, and give the ship a menacing, majestic character. Just take a look at the photos.

Details that create the magic

Sets aimed at older builders (the age category is 14+) have to win you over with details. REOBRIX understands that. The three-masted structure is packed with faithfully recreated rigging, anchor chains, dark ornamentation, and lanterns.

What’s happening on deck and below it? The model is loaded with great little touches:

  • Captain’s cabin – here you’ll find a richly detailed interior with a desk, maps, and navigational accessories.

  • Armament – movable cannons are arranged on the deck, and the hatches can be opened freely.

  • Crew decks and storage holds – carefully capturing the raw atmosphere of life of seafaring adventurers of old.

Display or play?

Although the ship has quite a few “play” functions (rotating cannons, opening doors and hatches, the ability to adjust the sails), its true element is definitely display. It’s a display piece model, made to shine in a glass display case or on a living-room sideboard. The frame construction is stable and rigid enough that you can move this 100-centimeter vessel without issue (as long as you grab appropriately sturdy sections of the hull).

Summary

The REOBRIX 66036 Black Pearl Pirate Ship is practically a must-have for brick enthusiasts looking for a big challenge. The price-to-piece-count ratio is outstanding. The building process itself is pure pleasure, and the satisfaction of placing such a majestic black sailing ship in your own home is beyond words.
